Insight to Layout Design
Hello and welcome back to Moments in Time developer updates. Since last week, we had a few things added to the the pre-prototype including few implementations of player abilities and minor edits. Today, we would like to talk about two things in particular: moving platform and layout design.
Our early vision for the game has always been a 2D platformer with time rewind mechanic. We are inspired by games with time manipulation and quick-paced run and gun. However, not all elements of two genres can blend easily. One element in particular is the moving platform. Creating a moving platform is a challenge on itself, but creating a moving platform that can adapt to the time manipulation mechanic is a greater challenge beyond the scope of our current ability. As such, we will not include moving platform in this version of the game to cut production time and to focus our resources in other aspect of the game.
On other note, our team is working hard to create an early sketch of the game world layout. Moments in Time starts out immediately in the middle of an ongoing catastrophe. The most promising facility has fallen into ruins. Survivors hide themselves in locked rooms and tight closets, hoping no savage loose experiments found them. Armed with few equipment, you must travel into the depths and corners of this facility and disable malfunctioned Time Field Generators one by one.
The facility is divided into 4 major areas: Researcher Housing, Seasons Lab, Day-Night Lab, and Maintance Area. The Housing is where the game will start, providing few quick tutorials to the player. Seasons Lab and Day-Night Lab are areas of the map with unique game mechanic and interesting puzzles. Maintenance Area contains some of the hardest enemy for end-game content. The rest of the area is in-between.
Keep in mind that all of these things are subject to change. So, stay tuned!
